the study of red lucha’s

15 Aug

A few months ago I did a giveaway for a free pair of Lucha Shoes, and while that was then and this is now, you should probably know that I’ve worn both my red and gray pairs to death, wandering around the city, casual hiking, grocery store, movies, etc. They are my staple weekend shoe.

Hi, I’m trying to get back into more regular fashion blogging. I can’t promise every day, and I won’t even promise a completely different pair of shoes for each post (although, I still haven’t cycled through all the shoes I own. It’s gonna take some time, just sayin’).

The Details:
Stripey cardigan and floral/lace top: Forever 21
Jeans: Nappi Clothing
Shoes: Lucha Shoes
Necklace: Nordstrom Rack (about a hundred years ago)
Red Cuff: Claire’s
Silver bracelet: Tiffany (gift)
Turquoise Ring: street vendor in Mazatlan, Mexico

**This post is part of Kayla‘s 21 Day Challenge, I will be remixing the cardigan two more times in the next three weeks. Check out the rest of the participants in the Flickr group here.

the study of bright pink chuck taylor all star sneakers

20 May

Bright pink Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers.

I started collecting Chuck’s a few years ago and have them in a half-dozen colors at this point.  I love them.  They are my ultimate casual shoe.  And today? Today is casual Friday.  Chuck’s it is!  This weekend will be spent in Redrock country, and I can’t wait to see a little sunshine (it’s been raining for 5 days, which is exactly 4.5 days longer than I remember it ever raining here).

Hot pink headband: Claire’s
Stripey T-shirt: H&M
Green cardigan: Old Navy
Pink/purple/metalllic scarf: Express
Horse necklace: Etsy
Jeans: Nappi clothing
Pink rose ring: Koo de Ker
Chuck Taylors: Converse.com

the study of red leather t-strap sandals

18 May

American Eagle T-strap sandals.

Yep, I’m pretending it’s actually springier than it really is!  Sandals and a cardigan (and a jacket and a scarf that are not pictured) for a dinner date?  Absolutely.

This ruffled tank top is supposed to be a lemon-limey green, but it looks kind of chartreusey-mustardy-yellow in the photo.  Regardless, I think the belt should be switched out for a darker chocolate brown, the lighter tan blends too much into the top.

This is my first time wearing gold jewelry.  Seriously.  I found the ring and loved it, and decided I needed a few other gold items to wear with it because I am not the kind of girl who can mix silver and gold in the same outfit.  (Do you do that?  Mix metals?  How does that work?)  At any rate, I love the owl necklace and I was ecstatic to dig the orangey earrings out of my jewelry box.

Sandals: American Eagle
Jeans: Nappi clothing
Greenish ruffled tank top: Old Navy
Chocolate brown cardigan: B.P., Nordstrom
Studded leather belt: Banana Republic
Owl necklace: Claire’s
Orange and gold earrings: Mazatlan, Mexico
Gold leaf ring: Claire’s

the study of black puma sneakers

4 Mar

Black PUMA sneakers, love them for casual Friday.  Admittedly, these were initially stolen from an x-boyfriend.  I mean, we were dating at the time of said shoe heist, but I totally stole his shoes.  And I wear them on a fairly regular basis.  And I love them.  (Thanks DL!)

PUMA Soleil Suede Fashion Sneaker, Black ($60.00)
Here are the exact shoes I’m wearing today…well, the women’s version of them. (wink)

PUMA Cat Fashion Sneaker, White/Black ($65.00)
I love the hot pink lining of these! So adorable!

PUMA Repli Cat III L Sneaker, White/Hot Pink ($70.00)
Who doesn’t love the pink and white combination? I mean, seriously. (OK, I realize some of you don’t like pink. And I’m not particularly obsessed with it, not like Pink Suede Shoe at any rate, but I think a little pink on your feet is fantastic.)

ALSO!  Remember to enter to win a FREE pair of Lucha Shoes! Contest entry and details are here. Contest is open until March 18.

enter to win a FREE pair of Lucha Shoes!

3 Mar

Have you heard of Lucha Shoes?  I am guessing probably not, which is a shame because they are the next big thing.  On the other hand, Lucha’s have only been available for purchase for approximately 48 hours, so you aren’t too far behind the curve.

As the very first sponsor of The Shoeologist, I am particularly fond of Lucha.  And you should be over the moon about them because they are giving away a brand new pair of FABULOUS shoes to one lucky reader of The Shoeologist!

Aren’t those perfectly adorable for Spring!?  They come in men’s and women’s sizes–men come in blue and gray, women in gray and red!  (Red!  I’m swooning!)  Lucha’s are more durable than their competition, the sole lasts longer and the fabric can withstand more of a beating.  Oh, and they are only $38 dollars, considerably less expensive than the competition!  Hello!  That is fantastic!

Want to hear the coolest part about Lucha Shoes?  I mean, besides the durability and the comfort and the fantastic price-point and all that jazz?   Lucha is Spanish for “a fight”, on the inside of the sole of each pair of Lucha’s there is a space to write down what you are fighting for.  Fighting against a disease?  Write it down.  Fighting against poverty or hunger or for civil rights? Write it down.  Are you fighting for love?  Write it down.  Fighting for Mexican orphans to have something other than rice and beans? Fighting to wear stretchy pants in your room, for fun? Write it down. (And then have a good giggle because Jack Black?  He’s funny!)

Fighting to go back to school?  To graduate?  Are you fighting to pass your Microeconomics/Calculus class? (Ahem, that would be me.)  Write it down and wear it on your sole (ha!  I’m so punny!).

Fight for your education, fight for civil rights, fight for your political beliefs, fight for your right to party (thank you Beastie Boys), fight for a team on which you play, fight for a team you cheer for, fight for your school, fight for a band you love, fight your mother-in-law (kidding, kind of…), fight your weaknesses, fight for spiritual growth, fight bad karma, fight temptations, fight pollution, fight global warming, fight against child prostitution, fight for clean energy, fight the BCS, fight for a cancer cure, fight HIV. The possibilities are endless…

What are you fighting for? Fight with your Feet!  Lucha Shoes.

I love it!  As soon as I heard that Lucha Shoes come in red I knew that was the color I simply HAD to have.  They have been ordered and are on their way to me and I can’t WAIT to flounce about town in sassy red shoes.  Dah, they’re so cute!

Alright, let’s get down to the nitty gritties of how you are going to win a pair of these fabulous shoes to do your own around-town flouncing!

  • This contest is open until Friday, March 18 at midnight Pacific time.
  • One winner will be chosen at random from all valid entries, the winner will be announced on Monday, March 21.  The winner will be able to choose what color he/she would like.  (Keep in mind these shoes come in men’s and women’s sizes, so gentlemen–you know, the two that read this blog–make sure you throw your hat in the ring for this one.)

the study of “prison issue” vans sneakers

28 Jan

Gray plaid “Prison Issue” Vans.  It’s Friday!!  And it’s been one of the crazier, busier, more stressful weeks in recent memory.  Words can hardly explain how thrilled I was when I realized today is the beginning of my weekend.  ”Prison Issue” Vans have Velcro tab-closures instead of laces, I have them in red as well and usually get compliments on how awesome they are.  In the vast halls of the Interwebs these are a bit of a rare commodity, I found them (in men’s sizes, careful if/when ordering) in black and gray, but that’s about it.

Happy Shopping, Happy Friday, Happy Weekend!

the study of black slip-on loafers

26 Jan

Black leather slip-on loafers, the brand is worn off the inside but I’m pretty sure I got these at Nordstrom Rack.  Yesterday’s exclamations over the spring-like weather must have angered the snow gods or something, because as soon as I headed out the door to my car–in springy, strappy satin sandals--it started to gently snow.  By the end of the day the roads were solid ice and there is a few inches of fresh white stuff on the ground.  C’est la vie, right?  Today I opted for practicality, which is so unlike me!

Additional loafers for your enjoyment and perusal:

AK Anne Klein Zeru Patent Leather Loafer

Circa Joan & David Neema Driving Loafer

Sperry Top-Sider Madaket Suede Loafer

Michael Kors Winsor Loafer

Two Lips Studded Slip-On Flat (only $36.50!)

Let me tell you a little something about ordering from Endless.  While I was looking around their site the other night for some links to include in yesterday’s post I found a pair of heels (which you’ll see next week) that I thought were adorable and they were on an incredible sale.  I ordered them at approximately 8:00 pm on Monday and used their standard, free shipping option.  By the time I got home from work on Tuesday they were waiting for me.  Um, that’s incredible!  I can’t think of any better form of instant gratification than a new box of shoes outside my front door, less than 24-hours after I ordered them.  /end soap box.

the study of pink and white puma sneakers

21 Jan

Hot pink and white leather PUMA sneakers.  I know I’m probably not technically supposed to be wearing white or white-ish shoes this time of year, but sometimes a girl needs a little pink.  And this particular brand of pink happens to come with white leather.  Just go with it, it’s Friday and my brain is fried.  Like these?  You’re in luck, Endless.com has them here. Well, they are close anyway, these were another Nordstrom Rack find five years ago and have been worn to death.  (Why?  Because they are fabulous, that’s why.)

Happy weekend!

the study of black, suede puma sneakers

20 Jan

Black suede PUMA sneakers.  I have several pair of PUMAs and wear them all the time on my more casual days.  I am not in the office today, but am instead volunteering with a group of high school students.  This makes Thursday awesome for a couple of reasons. A) I can wear jeans (yay!) and B) I don’t have to file a TPS report (double yay!).

I couldn’t find these particular sneakers online, I got them five years ago at Nordstrom Rack (along with a pair of identical shoes in gray), but I did find these fantastic purple PUMA’s that I will proceed to dream about for the next several hours.  (Love!)

A Note from the Editor: I don’t know what my deal is lately, but I am wearing a TON of suede!  Gray sneakers, navy blue pumps, gray pumps, chocolate brown pumps, and now these black sneakers!  It’s winter!  There is snow and all things wet on the ground!  Suede is impractical!  Meh, I guess I’m the poster child for impractical footwear (not that this is anything new or anything, just stating some facts).

the study of black, chunky-heel boots

14 Jan

Casual Friday + Overnight Snow Storm = leather winter boots.  I have started a massive overhaul of my shoe room, and in the clean-out discovered these black boots.  They only come up to the lower part of my calf, but seeing as how we don’t have 3 feet of snow on the ground (yet) I am totally fine with that.  Rampage black leather boots with 3-inch square heel.  (I know, I know, square, chunky heels aren’t really “in” anymore.  But here’s what, a stiletto heel would last approximately 10 feet on my sidewalk before you landed on your kiester.)
