the study of gray suede stiletto pumps

25 Aug

Gabrielle Rocha gray suede stiletto pumps, pointy toe, skinny heel, perfectly shaped. Yes, I love them. (Does this shock anyone? No? Good.

I found this cobalt blue dress at a thrift store for $5 dollars a few weeks ago. I can’t get enough of it. The color, the cut, the sleeves–seriously, take a look at the sleeves. They are fourteen different kinds of fabulous. Although, several times a day I find myself raising my arms over my head so the sleeves get away from my elbows, think Mickey Mouse in Fantasia.

In addition to thrifting the dress, I also thrifted the belt and the necklace. I’m a thrifting machine today!

The Details

Gray suede heels: Gabrielle Rocha
Turquoise pendant necklace: thrifted, Ray’s Ragtime, Portland
Turquoise ring: Trading Post, West Glacier NP

the study of suede color-block peep-toe heels

24 May

Magenta, grey and black suede peep-toe D’orsay pump with metallic trim and platform heel, thrifted (seriously!)

Two things:(1)  it has been raining here for almost 3 weeks.  I live in the middle of the desert.  This is not normal!! (2) The upside is that everything is ridiculously green, so I’m trying not to complain too much about it.

I found this skirt on clearance at a department store (Z.C.M.I., which was purchased by Meier and Frank, which was bought-out by Macy’s) 8 years ago and have worn it almost every week ever since.  It still looks great!  I love the paneled seaming and the charcoaly gray color.  Here’s to buying great basics!  *clinks glass

A friend of mine gave me a Piperlime giftcard for my birthday a few months ago.  Usually, I am the type to immediately spend that kind of gift on shoes, but I decided to branch out a little and see what else I could add to my wardrobe.  This silver bauble collar-style neckalce caught my eye, and seemed to be something Kendi would love (when in doubt, repeat this mantra: What Would Kendi Wear?).  I have tried it a couple of different ways and am loving how it brings a bit of sparkle and interest to an ensemble.  Yay for trying new trends!

The Details
Striped T-shirt: H&M
Magenta Cardigan: B.P., by Nordstrom
Charcoal paneled skirt: Macy’s (at least 8 years old)
Wide patent leather belt: Downeast Outfitters
Silver bauble necklace: Piperlime

Rose ring: Macy’s
Suede color-block heels: thrifted ($10!)

the study of grey suede pointy toe stilettos

15 Mar

Gray suede pointy toe pumps with 4-inch heel, by Gabriella Rocha.  I love the neutral shade of these heels, they are a bit on the brownish side of gray, as opposed to the blueish side. I actually have liked the warmer tone, although it means I can’t wear any of my cooler-gray clothes with them. (I know, the TRAGEDY!)

Michael Antonio Embellished Grey Pump ($29.66)
I love love LOVE the chain details on this shoe! It’s like a chic lady met a punk rocker and stole her shoes, or something.

Liliana Flash-38 Pointy-toe Pump, Grey ($31.05)
Classic pointy-toe shoe, a must for every cloest

Michael Antonio Gezana Wedge Pump, Grey ($65.00)
These are perhaps one of the more perfect wedge’s I’ve seen, the shape is fantastic, the color is divine, and the suede. Swoon!

Nine West Trilla Platform Pump, Grey ($89.00)
Mary Jane! Suede! Bows! Be still be shoe-loving heart!

Cole Haan Platform “Air Pump” with zipper detail ($152.96)
When I grow up I want a pair of Cole Haan’s. These ones, with the funky zipper detail, would be perfect.
(Dear Cole, please sponsor me, love Heidi.)

the study of black suede and velvet, strappy Mary Jane’s

31 Jan

Black suede, velvet and leather strappy Mary Jane’s with 4-inch heel, from Coach. That’s right, Coach. Several years ago I went to Chicago for the weekend to reward myself after a particularly grueling year. I went to see Wicked, visited some of my favorite museums, and wandered along The Magnificent Mile for two days straight. In my wanderings and window shopping, I found these lovelies. They are, to date, the most expensive pair of shoes I own. I got them on sale, a really big sale, but they were still $156.74. I know this, because the receipt is still inside the box. Do I regret this purchase? No. Do I wear these often? No. Do I think they are a waste of money? Absolutely not. They are like the “good china” your grandmother had, beautiful and delicate and not meant for every-day wear. Will I hand these beauties down to my daughter? Maybe, if she happens to be a size 10. (wink.)

Here are a few similar pairs, although nothing quite so outrageous in price. Happy Monday.

BCBGeneration Drift Mary-Jane Pump

T.U.K. Mary Jane Pump

MICHAEL Michael Kors Clare T-Strap Heel
(these ones are a little pricey, but so pretty!)

Bordello by Pleaser Spectator Pump
(I love these, absolutely love them!)

the study of black, suede puma sneakers

20 Jan

Black suede PUMA sneakers.  I have several pair of PUMAs and wear them all the time on my more casual days.  I am not in the office today, but am instead volunteering with a group of high school students.  This makes Thursday awesome for a couple of reasons. A) I can wear jeans (yay!) and B) I don’t have to file a TPS report (double yay!).

I couldn’t find these particular sneakers online, I got them five years ago at Nordstrom Rack (along with a pair of identical shoes in gray), but I did find these fantastic purple PUMA’s that I will proceed to dream about for the next several hours.  (Love!)

A Note from the Editor: I don’t know what my deal is lately, but I am wearing a TON of suede!  Gray sneakers, navy blue pumps, gray pumps, chocolate brown pumps, and now these black sneakers!  It’s winter!  There is snow and all things wet on the ground!  Suede is impractical!  Meh, I guess I’m the poster child for impractical footwear (not that this is anything new or anything, just stating some facts).

the study of gray suede, Italian pumps

19 Jan

Dark gray suede Italian pumps, gifted to me from my favorite Aunt.  She and I have the same shoe size, and when her feet grew a half-size she handed down several pairs of beautiful shoes.  These are the gray sister of the navy blue suede pumps I wore last week.

In hopping about the Interwebs I found a couple of fantastic pairs of gray heels, I particularly love these Gray suede menswear-ish pump by Tracy Reese. This gray flannel pump looks particularly cozy. And these fabulous oxford-inspired, menswear-ish, spectator-like heels.  (Yes, that’s a mouthful of a description, but they’re just so perfect!)  They aren’t gray and they aren’t suede, but they are all kinds of fabulous, so I’m including them here.

the study of vintage, chocolate suede pumps

18 Jan

Chocolate brown suede vintagey pumps with slight pointed-toe, 2.5-inch heel, and bow detail.  These are one of the very few pairs of shoes I own that came from a thrift store, I absolutely love them.  They are so feminine and sweet and perfectly shaped.

the study of navy blue, suede shoes

13 Jan

Navy blue suede pumps with 3.5-inch heel and square-ish toe.  These were a hand-me-down from my favorite aunt, they are Italian made and a classic regardless of that Elvis song.  Looking around the Interwebs, I found this navy suede platform pump and  this lovely pointy-toe version from Nine West,   I also really like these brighter royal blue suede pump from ZiGiny.

the study of gray, suede sneakers

Gray suede sneaker by Puma.

Hi and Happy 2011!  I don’t have to go back to work until tomorrow (yay!) and have spent a lovely morning sleeping in and, um, sleeping in.  My most pressing tasks of the day including finding a pink or purple beanie and meeting a friend for lunch.  I love these lazy kind of vacation days!

the study of gray, suede knee-boots

13 Dec

Soft gray, suede knee-boots with 1″ stacked heel, from Urban Outfitters.  These lovelies are my one and only Black Friday purchase this year and I am absolutely loving them!  I’m not usually one for flat shoes–as is evidenced by this blog, ahem–and I have a difficult time finding boots to fit over my runner’s calves.  I had no intention of buying boots, but these are so soft, and they fit in the foot and the calf and I couldn’t not take them home with me.  (English majors and grammar nazi’s: please ignore the double negative right there, mmmkay?)  It feels like spring here today, but that didn’t stop me from wearing some dark grapey-purple tights.  If I dress for winter it will come, right?

Remember to enter my giveaway for a FREE pair of knee-high Muckboots!  Wednesday, Dec. 15 is the last day to enter!
