the study of red strappy wedges

17 Aug

Red satin strappy sandals with 4-inch wedge heel by Steve Madden, via Nordstrom Rack. These are one of my favorite pairs of summer heels, I love the wedges, I love the straps. I feel like these shoes are lingerie for your feet, but, you know, the kind that is appropriate to wear to work.

I found this skirt a few weeks ago and have absolutely loved wearing it, it is perfect for road trips or other long bouts of sitting where you don’t want to look (or feel) like a slouch but are desperate for some slouchy-feeling clothes. Coincidentally, the chevron pattern means I can also wear it to work without worrying I’m too casual. Double win!

The Details

Chevron skirt: Old Navy
Cream T: Downeast Outfitters
Tan cardigan: Old Navy
Red scarf: Urban Outfitters I absolutely love the sheep print on this!
Coral-like silver ring: From a teeny little general store in Wisdom, MT
Red strappy wedges: Nordstrom Rack
Silver bracelet: Tiffany

the study of red lucha’s

15 Aug

A few months ago I did a giveaway for a free pair of Lucha Shoes, and while that was then and this is now, you should probably know that I’ve worn both my red and gray pairs to death, wandering around the city, casual hiking, grocery store, movies, etc. They are my staple weekend shoe.

Hi, I’m trying to get back into more regular fashion blogging. I can’t promise every day, and I won’t even promise a completely different pair of shoes for each post (although, I still haven’t cycled through all the shoes I own. It’s gonna take some time, just sayin’).

The Details:
Stripey cardigan and floral/lace top: Forever 21
Jeans: Nappi Clothing
Shoes: Lucha Shoes
Necklace: Nordstrom Rack (about a hundred years ago)
Red Cuff: Claire’s
Silver bracelet: Tiffany (gift)
Turquoise Ring: street vendor in Mazatlan, Mexico

**This post is part of Kayla‘s 21 Day Challenge, I will be remixing the cardigan two more times in the next three weeks. Check out the rest of the participants in the Flickr group here.

the study of red leather t-strap sandals

18 May

American Eagle T-strap sandals.

Yep, I’m pretending it’s actually springier than it really is!  Sandals and a cardigan (and a jacket and a scarf that are not pictured) for a dinner date?  Absolutely.

This ruffled tank top is supposed to be a lemon-limey green, but it looks kind of chartreusey-mustardy-yellow in the photo.  Regardless, I think the belt should be switched out for a darker chocolate brown, the lighter tan blends too much into the top.

This is my first time wearing gold jewelry.  Seriously.  I found the ring and loved it, and decided I needed a few other gold items to wear with it because I am not the kind of girl who can mix silver and gold in the same outfit.  (Do you do that?  Mix metals?  How does that work?)  At any rate, I love the owl necklace and I was ecstatic to dig the orangey earrings out of my jewelry box.

Sandals: American Eagle
Jeans: Nappi clothing
Greenish ruffled tank top: Old Navy
Chocolate brown cardigan: B.P., Nordstrom
Studded leather belt: Banana Republic
Owl necklace: Claire’s
Orange and gold earrings: Mazatlan, Mexico
Gold leaf ring: Claire’s

the study of red patent leather sling backs

13 May

Red patent leather peep-toe sling backs with 4″ heel, by Guess.

I’ve shown these shoes before but I absolutely love them.  Red heels are one of the ultimate staples in my closet, they will always make me feel better about the day.

I am still getting used to this whole “take pictures of yourself” thing–good thing my apartment complex has several mostly hidden places where I can pose in front of my mini tripod without feeling too ridiculous.  I bought this chocolate-brown pencil skirt on a whim and it has become one of my go-to pieces when dressing for work.  Pencil skirts.  You should own one (or four!)  I tried on four or five red necklaces with this top, but the high V-neck and the ruching and buttons down the side made most of them feel like far too much.  Any suggestions?

Shoes: Guess
Sweater: Bohme
Pencil Skirt: TJ Maxx
Bracelet: Tiffany

Red satin pointy-toe slingbacks with dainty bows and a demure 2.5-inch heel, by Karen Smith.  These are generally categorized as “fancy shoes”, but today feels completely springy and I, for one, would like to celebrate it.  With satin slippers.  Impractical?  Yes.  But when have I been known for being practical?

Also–this is my 100th post as The Shoeologist!  I think that deserves a little celebration, right?  For the next two minutes I will have a mini dance party in my cube.  I suggest you follow suit.  (wink)

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Bright red patent leather sling-back, peep-toe shoes with 4-inch cork heel, by Guess.  I probably own almost ten pairs of red heels, but these are hands down my favorite.  Today I’m celebrating my birthday (well, it was yesterday, but close enough) and my favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day.  I don’t have a sweetheart this year to celebrate with, but I have an evening full of cupcakes and books and fabulous shoes in store for me.  It should be awesome.  (Note: The Strand is a used book store in New York City that is absolutely fabulous.  It tops my list of favorite places in the city, you must check it out if you are ever in NYC!)

Other lovely V-Day heels for your enjoyment:

Dollhouse Kasana T-strap Sandal, Red ($38.46)

Harajuku Lovers Delaney Platform Sandal, Red ($89.95)

Joan & David Collection Kenyon Platform Sandal, Red Patent Leather ($220.95, but so pretty!)

the study of red patent leather peep toe pumps

Steve Madden red patent leather, peep-toe, platform pumps with 4-inch heel.  Today is National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for heart health for women, tragically, I haven’t done laundry in about 3 weeks and my stash of red tops is buried at the bottom of the dirty clothes hamper.  But I decided I could wear red heels instead.  I know these are more summery than February-y, but between the Go Red for Women and Valentine’s Day I figured it didn’t really matter.  Right?  Right.  Here’s some additional bright-red lovelies for your Friday-viewing pleasure!  Happy Weekend!

Burgundy patent-leather pointy-toe pumps with bow and fringe at the toe and 3-inch heel, by Anne Klein.  I love how classic these heels look, I have worn them with dark, skinny jeans and a white button-up, or a suit, or (like today) a printed dress and cardigan.  They go with everything.

I tried to find a similar pair of heels, but apparently burgundy patent leather + menswear-inspired pumps are harder to come by than I thought! I did find some lovely burgundy heels though. I have a huge crush on these layered leather platform pumps and wish I had the extra pennies to order them. Ditto on these burgundy patent-leather Mary Jane’s from Joan & David. This pair of pointy-toe pumps from Charles by Charles David are swoontastic, and they have some color combinations that made my jaw drop (I’m looking at you, camel and orange.)  Here is a really cute pair of Menswearish ballet-flat from Chinese Laundry. I also found two pair of fantastic heels made from several different textures in the same, deep burgundy hue; slingbacks from Anne Klein and these day-to-night stunners by Lovely People.

Burgundy Mary Jane with T-strap, 3.5-inch heel, and cut-outs at the toe, by Report.

It’s been a crazy weekend here at Casa de the Shoeologist, I had a pretty wicked head-cold yesterday and hardly moved from the comfort of my bed. Today the temperature is in single digits, I start classes again at the University, and I would very much like to be snuggled up under a fluffy feather comforter.  Instead, I’m bundled up at work in thick tights and a snuggly sweater with a steaming cup of cocoa.  It’s almost as good (who am I kidding, it’s not the same at all but it’s all I’ve got to work with).

Here is a gorgeous pair of burgundy T-strap heels from Frye.

substitute teacher: the study of bright red peep-toe heels

26 Dec

Today’s shoes are brought to you from across the pond, Mackenzi is one of my most favorite former students and I was thrilled when she volunteered to fill in for me from her outpost in London.  Miss Kenzi, you have a great start on some amazing style with these beauties!

I have always, always, always wanted to own a pair of red patent leather heels. They are sassy, classy, and seriously hot.  However, I have never found that pair that is just quite right. Then I found these beauties. They are everything I ever wanted in a red shoe; skinny heel, peep toe, shinny, eye popping color, these ladies are the complete package. And the best part? Only $20. I’m in love.
